The Department of Health and Exercise Studies (HES) seeks applicants for three (3) full-time non-tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor for the Fall 2021 semester. The successful candidate will possess strong teaching and evaluation skills with an interest in physical fitness, wellness, and health. This position will teach an estimated eight credit hours per semester. There are opportunities for some disciplinary focus as well as overall fitness and wellness-related classes. Additional responsibilities will include equipment planning and procurement for areas of expertise, in addition to departmental and university committee participation. Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction and experiential learning.
Successful/on-campus interviewees will be expected to submit 3 letters of reference.Other Responsibilities
Teaching courses from the physical fitness/activity courses will be the main focus and other minor curriculum as scheduling allows. Presenting at multiple professional workshops, clinics, conferences, or conventions appropriate to the area of expertise during the appointment is expected at the Teaching Assistant Professor level.
Other duties as assigned.Minimum Experience and Education
Requires doctor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, Public Health, Health Education, or related field, a terminal degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience for Teaching Assistant Professor. Degree should be completed prior to August 2021.Other Required Qualifications
Candidates must have expertise in teaching several of the following physical fitness/activity courses and/or Health minor courses such as Methods of Health Promotion and Health Planning and Programming.
Activity class examples include: fitness (aerobics, water aerobics, weight training, running), somatics (yoga, Pilates), team sports (ultimate frisbee, softball, flag football), racquet sports, gymnastics, aquatics (scuba, lifeguard training, swim instruction), dance (tap, jazz, and social), and adapted physical education.
Doctorate in Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, Public Health, Health Education, or related field, or equivalent degree or equivalent. PMA Certified Teacher (or equivalent) or RYT 200 (or above) certifications are preferred. Experience teaching at the college or university level is preferred.Required License(s) or Certification(s)
