DescriptionThe Social Work program in the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applications for a Student Services Specialist to begin January 2021. The position is responsible for graduate student admissions and graduation processes, program advising, student communication and professional development, and coordination of selected student-focused events. The Student Services Specialist plans, improves and implements processes and identifies innovative programming that enhance the graduate student experience.  

The position serves as a program liaison to the University Marketing and Communications office. The Specialist will also work with undergraduate students on a limited basis. The position is a member of internal and campus teams and committees relevant to the position, and as assigned by the Social Work Chair.

Job Duties: 

    Responds to initial inquiries from persons interested in learning more about both of the Social Work programs (undergraduate and graduate).Participates in recruiting events for both of the Social Work programs (undergraduate and graduate).Guides prospective graduate social work students through the application process and assists admitted graduate social work students with registration, student forms, and/or other student services issues.Coordinates with Admissions office and program director to process graduate social work applications.Maintains regular communication with prospective, admitted and current social work graduate students.Manages intercampus enrollment and transfer credit processes for social work graduate students.Establishes, maintains and monitors graduate social work student records from application through graduation; implements actions as appropriate (e.g., probationary status letters).Supports student experience by navigating and troubleshooting enrollment and admissions issues.Collaborates with faculty and staff to inform policy, procedure and process regarding graduate social work student needs and outcomes.Works with Social Work Chair, faculty and staff as well as other related campus personnel as appropriate to achieve unit goals related to student services.Coordinates student communications and acts as a program liaison with University Marketing and Communications.Purchases and maintains inventory of promotional items and materials.Other duties as assigned by the Social Work Chair.

This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Salary Range: Generally starting between $36,199/yr and $45,249/yr

Tentative Search Timeline:

    First round of interviews with the search committee expected to be held November 5-6, 2020.

    Second round of interviews with the search committee and other stakeholders expected to be held during the week of November 15, 2020.

    A January 1, 2021 start date is strongly preferred.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • The equivalent of at least one year of full-time experience working in an academic services setting relevant to this position's responsibilities 
    • Substitution: Graduate-level education in social work, student affairs, or a related field may be substituted for work experience on a year for year basis
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master of Social Work degree from program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education OR Master's degree in a related field to include Psychology, Sociology, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or Human Services
  • Demonstrated familiarity with social work and social service systems
  • The equivalent of two or more years of full-time experience working in an academic services setting relevant to this position's responsibilities
Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Tasks may involve looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
