Assistant Professor in Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology at UMass Boston

The Department of Biology at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor who studies complex physiological systems or networks, preferably using a systems biology approach, to begin September 1, 2021. Specific areas could be pathophysiology, metabolism, hormone or cell signaling, or related topics. The successful applicant is expected to establish an externally funded research program, direct the research of students at the doctoral, masters and undergraduate levels, and interact with a dynamic group of molecular, cell, and developmental biologists. The successful candidate’s lab will be located in the new Integrated Science Complex, which houses core facilities for genomics, imaging and flow cytometry.

Applicants must have a PhD and professional experience in molecular biology, network, and/or systems biology. We welcome candidates who utilize creative experimental approaches including functional genomics, bioinformatics, proteomics, metabolomics, or in-vitro biochemistry. We are particularly interested in those whose research will complement our existing strengths in cell, microbial, and developmental biology. Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected, and those applying innovative pedagogical approaches are encouraged to apply. We also especially encourage individuals from underrepresented groups in science to apply.

Application instructions:

Candidates should submit (i) a cover letter detailing how their proposed experimental work would complement existing research within the Department, (ii) a curriculum vitae, (iii) a statement of research plans, (iv) a statement of teaching philosophy (including teaching experience and preferred teaching area(s)), and (v) a diversity statement that reflects the candidate’s experience and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Applicants should also include contact information for three references.

For further information, visit the Biology Department website at http://www.umb.edu/academics/csm/biology or contact Chair of Search Committee, Linda Huang at [email protected] or Rachel Skvirsky, Chair of Biology, at [email protected].

Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
