Job Description:

The Communication Department at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, one of the premier communication programs in the country, invites applications for a full-time Director of Marketing and Communications. We seek a colleague with demonstrated creative and project management skills to lead development and execution of all promotional strategies for the College, including client relations, campaign development, oversight of creative materials, social media promotion, analytics and management of student assistants.

Director of Marketing and Communications

Directs implementation of College communication strategy and projects. Establishes the direction, goals and implementation strategy for all marketing and promotion for the College. Structures communications campaigns to achieve long-term and short-term organizational goals. Works with internal clients to develop project goals and plans. Directs development of creative brief for larger-scale projects. Establishes budget, project timelines and deadlines, and metrics. Responsible for ensuring that all programs, activities, and series comply with university, state, and federal regulations.

Directs promotion recruitment efforts for both in-residence and online graduate programs. Works with Associate Dean of Graduate Division and Director of UF CJC Online to establish communication strategy and goals. Directs development of promotional campaign to advance recruitment of graduate students. Works with Graduate Division recruitment coordinator on ongoing communication efforts.

Manages and creates communication materials. Works with freelancers and internal staff to develop creative material, including advertisements, brochures, social media graphics, Web site images, promotional e-mails, etc. Ensures consistency of messages, branding and visual identity

Directs efforts of and manages student assistants. Directs ongoing social media promotion, including new developments, accomplishments and other College news. Works with students to develop social media campaigns promoting faculty, staff, students, departments and the college overall. Directs students on development of promotional material

Assists the Executive Director with overall communication strategy. Collaborates on annual communication plan development. Assists in evaluating success metrics and identifying new approaches. Meets regularly with Executive Director to assess current activity and establish priorities for new projects

Although our department is small relative to the larger colleges at UF, we have been recognized for our successful campaigns, including the top college during UF’s Giving Day for two years in a row. The department consists of an executive director, events manager, photographer/videographer, web developer and 2-3 student assistants. Among our responsibilities are maintaining and enhancing the college Web site, producing a printed annual report, managing four social media channels, producing press releases, producing three monthly newsletters, event promotion, student and faculty recruitment promotion and more.

Although our department is small relative to the larger colleges at UF, we have been recognized for our successful campaigns, including the top college during UF’s Giving Day for two years in a row. Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree or master's degree in marketing, advertising, graphic design, mass communication or related fields is strongly preferred.

Applicants should have a minimum of six years of marketing and communication experience, including experience developing marketing campaigns and materials (print and digital), and strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge of UF branding guidelines and assets and experience managing student employees is a plus.

Experience promoting graduate-level programs is also a plus.

Experience in managing communications for a large organization is preferred.
