Performs manual work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of automotive and related equipment. Work involves performance of skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, buses, mowers and other vehicular equipment in accordance with standard trade practices. Works under general supervision using independent judgment as to methods of repair after receiving instructions or work orders. A supervisor may check work during repair or test run equipment after work is completed.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
*Ability to use electrical and hydraulic schematics to diagnose and repair automotive systems and components.
*Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair of automotive equipment.
*Knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline engines and of mechanical repair of trucks and construction equipment.
*Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
*Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment and make necessary repairs.
*Ability to interpret and work from sketches and pencil diagrams.
*Skill in the use and the operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work.
*Knowledge and use of the internal work order and parts management systems.
*Walk, stand, climb stairs, squat, bend, work with hands above head.
*Work from a standard and/or extended ladder.
*Lift up to 40 lbs throughout a normal 8 hour work day.

Performs preventative maintenance on all assigned vehicles and equipment.
Performs general overhaul and repair work on automobiles, buses, movers, trucks, tractors, hay-balers, and over all automotive equipment.
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces defective parts including valves, pistons, and bearings.
Repairs cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems.
Repairs and overhauls brakes, ignition systems, transmissions, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies, repairs & installs hydraulic controls, and tunes motors using standard testing equipment.Percentage of time15Duties/Responsibilities
