The Research on Intersectionality, Sexuality, and Empowerment (RISE) lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate. The research associate will with work with Dr. Lanice Avery to study issues related to Black women’s intersectional identities, cultural socialization, interpersonal relationships, and psycho-sexual well-being.
The research will utilize a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate the gender-based psychological and sociocultural factors that contribute to mental and sexual health disparities among Black women. The primary responsibilities of this position involve analyzing quantitative survey data, drafting manuscripts, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will also be expected to train graduate and undergraduate students, present at national conferences, assist with the preparation of IRB protocols, grant applications, and support laboratory management. The University of Virginia is a highly selective research institution in Charlottesville, VA with faculty engaged in well-funded and cutting-edge research.
QUALIFICATIONS: We seek a highly motivated, proactive, and collaborative scholar for the position. Completion of a Ph.D. in psychology, sociology, or related discipline (e.g., public health) required by the appointment start date. The candidate must have strong statistical computational skills (SPSS, MPlus, Excel) and experience utilizing multivariate statistical techniques including correlation, regression, ANOVA, mediation, moderation, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Must have strong written and oral communication skills, experience managing multiple project timelines and consistently meeting deadlines. Substantive interests in critical race/intersectional feminist theories and sexual health are highly desirable.
