The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics in the School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in Dr. Avril Somlyo’s laboratory. The successful candidate selected for this Postdoctoral position will carry out research proposed in the funded NIH R01 grant and other independent research projects related to the R01 funding. The project focuses on our discovery of new signaling pathways mediated by the p90 ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK2) that regulate vascular resistance, myogenic tone and blood flow and have potential for new therapeutic targets for contractile pathologies of the vessel wall. Dr. Somlyo works in collaboration with Dr. Swapnil Sonkusare, Drs. Urzula and Zygmunt Derewenda and Dr. Thu Le providing a stimulating learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with experience in a variety of physiological, biochemical, structural and molecular biological approaches.
Experience in Ca2+ sensitization assays, pressure myography of small blood vessels, fluorescence imaging of Ca2+, H+ and Na+, immunolabeling, the application of shRNAs, and assays for identification of protein-protein interactions is preferred. Training includes the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications and participation in the activities of the renowned Cardiovascular Institute.
Minimum Education Requirements: Ph.D. in physiology, pharmacology or related fields
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
