The University of Virginia Health System Development Office seeks an Assistant Director to support UVA Children’s and the Children’s Miracle Network. The Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Program is a critical component of UVA Children’s annual fund program. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the corporate annual fundraising goals for the CMN program, including managing both national and local CMN partner relationships and annual signature events including Dance Marathons and the Extra Life Program. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for maintaining a portfolio of individual leadership annual giving prospects and donors.

Coordinate Children’s Miracle Network Program (CMN) – 40%

  • Carry out all aspects of our CMN program

  • Manage relationships with and provide stewardship, campaign guidance and assistance to CMN national and local retail partners, including but not exclusive to: WalMart/Sam’s Club, Costco, Dairy Queen, Ace Hardware, Speedway, Giant/Martin’s, Rite Aid, and The Hershey Company

  • Attend required CMN conference calls and events to learn and share best practices, and remain aware of policy and procedure changes.

  • Manage our Miracle Families program by recruiting new families, informing families of events and activities, providing stewardship, and using stories strategically to thank and recruit partners.

  • Cultivate and steward local CMN Partners including such as: Nest Realty, Atlantic Mortgage, First Heritage Mortgage, and Jump!

  • Seek out new personal or business partnerships to host events, foster small giving campaigns, or make gifts to CMN programs at UVA

Manage CMN Events – 30%

  • Work with student volunteers and community partners on the following CMN events:

    • MadiThon at James Madison University

    • HOOThon at University of Virginia

    • Extra Life Program

    • Radiothon (currently not occurring)

  • Provide oversight for 3rd party events raising funds for CMN at UVA Children’s

  • Manage and serve as point for all Get Involved fundraisers

Leadership Annual Giving – 20%

  • Maintain a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects; identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership annual giving prospects and donors, with a focus on $1K - $10K annually

  • Identify major gift/planned gift prospects for Director of Development and Associate Director of Development

  • Manage stewardship for all annual fund level donors with assistance from Development Associate (impact reports, manage thank you process)

Program and Event Support – 10%

  • IMO/IHO requests

  • Check Presentations for local partners

  • Assisting with volunteer/board management, Hospital tours

  • In kind donation requests/ coordination with Child Life services

  • Serve as the Children’s team point of contact for questions/inquiries pertaining to third party events

  • Assist with annual Turkey Trot event (volunteer management, packet-pick up, event day coordination and support) and other Children’s events as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience

  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, manage multiple projects simultaneously, set and manage priorities, and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated excellence in working successfully with a wide range of constituents

  • Excellent computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Ability to travel by car locally and regionally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the fundamental principles of fundraising and special event planning

  • Volunteer recruitment and management experience

  • Experience as a Board or Steering committee member for the Dance Marathon on their University campus
