The Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in the Section of Field Service. This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Academic Clinician track (Associated Faculty, untenured) and is expected to enhance the clinical and teaching missions of the Section. The position is equine focused, and the ideal candidate also would possess special interest and training in equine theriogenology. The successful applicant will join our collaborative team of four faculty members providing clinical services to a broad base of equine clients, including large and small breeding farms, performance horse facilities, and individual horse owners. Faculty members in the Academic Clinician track are expected to demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and innovation in delivery of care. Excellence in teaching, including mentoring of veterinary students and house officers, is also expected. Participation in collaborative research projects is encouraged.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will provide ambulatory clinical service to equine patients and will rotate with the other equine Field Service clinicians in the emergency schedule (typically providing emergency coverage one weeknight per week and one weekend per month).  The position involves daily farm appointments to provide preventative medicine, lameness evaluation, ophthalmology, infectious disease, and dentistry. A specific focus of this position will be to provide reproductive services to breeding farms.  Teaching of veterinary students in both a didactic and clinical setting is an important aspect of the position, as is clinical training of equine interns and residents. The successful applicant is encouraged to collaborate with and support research programs of senior faculty in the Section of Field Service and other sections within the Department of Clinical Studies.


Penn Vet New Bolton Center Hospital for Large Animals is located in picturesque Southern Chester County in the heart of Pennsylvania's horse country, approximately 45 minutes from Philadelphia and 35 minutes from Wilmington, Delaware.



VMD/DVM or equivalent degree, and at least 3 years of clinical practice or residency training in equine medicine, surgery, reproduction or related fields with the ability to be licensed in PA, MD, and DE at the time of hire. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in equine theriogenology. Board certification or eligibility for certification is desirable, but not required.
