The standard workweek is 37.5 hours, Monday-Friday. The standard workday is 8:30am-5:00pm with one hour daily for lunch.

Reporting to the Dean of the University of South Carolina’s School of Law, the Assistant Dean for Advancement is responsible for leading the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of the Law School’s Communications, Development, Alumni Relations, and Events programs and initiatives. The Assistant Dean leads and manages a complex set of strategies and constituencies designed to optimize the implementation of key portions of the Law School’s strategic plan and must therefore develop strategic partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders. The Assistant Dean is charged with providing leadership in shaping and integrating the School’s resource development, communications, and marketing functions into a cohesive strategy that aligns with the School’s strategic vision and advances its overall mission. The School of Law is comprised of an accomplished community of faculty and student scholars, and the Assistant Dean for Advancement is charged with developing a communications strategy which publicizes these achievements across broad and deep sectors to maximize the reputation of the School. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for overall marketing of the School and specifically the School’s non-JD programs.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree in a related area with at least ten years of successful experience relating to the duties described required; advanced degree preferred. Successful resource development experience and a proven record of accomplishment in building relationships with foundations, corporations, community and business leaders, and donors, among others.

The Assistant Dean must be a results-oriented leader with a strong sense of vision, creativity, and initiative who also demonstrates strong organizational and leadership skills and has a demonstrable ability to build relationships to enhance the School’s reputation and secure resources. The Assistant Dean must have excellent communication skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to influence and motivate constituencies and to build high-performing teams. Additionally, the Assistant Dean must possess the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in an organized and detail-oriented way. The Assistant Dean must also have strong interpersonal and customer-service skills and be able to work well with various constituencies, including faculty, staff, alumni, students, and other groups. The Assistant Dean must be able to work effectively under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.
