The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill announces a faculty position in veterinary comparative anatomic pathology. Qualified candidates will be a licensed US-veterinarian holding a DVM/VMD (or equivalent degree); board certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP, ECVP) is required (board-eligible considered); a PhD in a related field is highly preferred. A demonstrated commitment to comparative and investigative pathology is required. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, collegial attitude, and a demonstrated ability to work well with others, including faculty, staff, and trainees.
The successful candidate will be an actively engaged collaborator with scientific investigators at the University of North Carolina (UNC) as well as at North Carolina State University (NCSU), located in Raleigh, NC approximately 25 miles from Chapel Hill, NC. At UNC, a component of the work will support comparative pathology for the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. At NCSU, the candidate will provide comparative pathology services to the Center for Human Health and the Environment. The candidate will also mentor veterinary anatomic pathology residents in the UNC/NCSU joint comparative pathology program.
Duties will include:
Teaching- A primary role of the successful candidate will be to train veterinary residents in comparative anatomic pathology. Related activities may include, but are not limited to, training laboratory animal veterinary residents, PhD students, and on occasion DVM students or post-doctoral fellows in comparative anatomy and histopathology of laboratory animals. This faculty member will also assist in teaching general and systemic pathology to graduate students at UNC.
Research- The successful candidate is expected to engage in collaborative research with investigators at UNC (Chapel Hill, NC) and NCSU (Raleigh, NC). These activities should support and foster extramural research grants and peer-reviewed research publications. Occasionally work may include collaborative investigative pathology studies with other universities and industries.
Service- Academic service is expected to include, but not limited to, departmental, college, and university committees, professional organizations, and editorial and grant review panels. The successful candidate would be expected to take a leadership role in planning and performing diagnostic necropsies and associated histopathologic examinations related to scientific studies or occasional health issues in laboratory animals as required. While the candidate may work in conjunction with the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, supporting the domestic animal necropsy and biopsy service of the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine is not a duty of this position.
