Position Summary:

Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of the largest academic departments in the School of Physical Sciences at UCI and our staff are responsible for administrative duties associated with a population of 290 people. This includes our largest faculty population of 53 faculty, 76 non-senate academics, 15 career staff, and 146 graduate students. Physics lies at the forefront of our understanding of nature. It includes the study of the universe on the largest scales - astronomy and cosmology, and on the smallest - physics of quarks and leptons. In addition, physics provides the background for high technology; lasers, nuclear power, semiconductors, and medical imaging all have their roots in physics. At the UCI Department of Physics and Astronomy, world-renowned physicists study exciting topics like quantum mechanics, gravitation, the big bang, black holes, magnetism, and superconductivity.

Applies professional student services concepts. Provides varied student services to students, faculty and department management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues. Incumbent is responsible for the daily management of the Undergraduate Affair in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Oversees undergraduate enrollment for various majors for matriculated and non-matriculated students. Analyzes and implements procedures for enrollment. Coordinates and manages scheduling of department seminars, courses, and activities. Organizes and coordinates undergraduate recruitment and Welcome Week activities. Manages and updates schedule of classes/course catalogue for the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Composes guidelines and procedures to faculty and teaching assistants for course administration. Coordinates activities for Physics majors throughout the year.

Compensation Range:

$41,000 - $51,700

Required:

Interpersonal skills. Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking. Ability in problem identification and reasoning. Ability to multi-task; verbal and written communication skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Skill in using quantitative and statistical information to analyze and forecast the effectiveness of a variety of policies and procedures.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases. Knowledge of University processes and procedures. Understanding of University rules and regulations.
