•June & July: Office hours are flexible but must be 10-15 hours each week between 9am-5pm Monday – Thursday.
• August: Office hours are 15-20+ hours per week.
• MUST ATTEND MANDATORY OWL TRAINING DATES & RETREAT
• Orientation week 20+ hours (Orientation Week exact date TBA. The week prior to the start of the fall semester.)
• MUST ATTEND ALL ORIENTATION WORK DAYS & EVENT DATES.

The Orientation Week Coordinators are experienced OWL Leaders who are paraprofessional members of the Office of Student Life. Orientation Week Coordinators create a link between the Orientation Week Leaders, Office of Student Life staff, and the La Verne community. A successful candidate will have demonstrated their ability to work independently and collaboratively, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, exercise good judgment and personal integrity. They have the ability to supervise and manage peers and integrate the four core values of the university into their work: diversity and inclusivity, ethical reasoning, lifelong learning, and civic & community engagement. The Orientation Week Coordinators have the responsibility to work alongside the Office of Student Life staff to coordinator the New Student Orientation for 2019. We will be selecting 2 OWL Coordinators.

Specific Duties

OWL Event Coordinators

•Operate as part of the Office of Student Life staff and a representative of the University of La Verne;
•Oversee & plan an educational and social Orientation program (including but not limited to: room reservation, vendors, entertainment, working with faculty and staff)
•Assist with the recruitment and hiring of Orientation Week Leaders (OWLs) as well as training, scheduling and overall supervision and evaluation of OWL’s (potential 60 + interviews)
•Assist Academic Advising with SOAR including assigning OWLs to various roles.
•Assist in budget planning, preparation, and reporting
•Attend mandatory Coordinator retreat in early June along with attend New Student Orientation staff meetings and trainings
•Handle all email communications from the [email protected] email account
•Manage the social media accounts for New Student Orientation
•Send out a New Student Orientation Newsletter every month starting in June through August to our new incoming students
•Perform duties as assigned, help as needed with duties that emerge over the course of New Student Orientation programming

Minimum Qualifications

• Prospective candidates must be in good academic standing (current cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above) at the University and not on academic or social probation.
• Prospective candidates must meet and maintain a 2.5 semester and cumulative GPA throughout their appointment. Grade Point Averages will be verified each subsequent semester while in office.
• Prospective candidates must be a traditional undergraduate student during the 2019-2020academic year and the fall 2020 semester.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous Orientation Week Leader experience preferred.

Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.

University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.

In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.

Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
