Position Highlights:

The Human Resources (HR) Consultant is an experienced HR Professional for a portfolio of internal client groups. The HR Consultant provides direct consultation, guidance and coaching to employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leaders on a wide variety of HR topics including employee relations, performance management, application of policy and legal compliance, organizational effectiveness, retention, compensation and recruitment strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide HR services to clients and serve as a resource to client leadership on all employment matters. Support leaders and unit HR staff through guidance and coaching with front-line managers and supervisors to resolve employee related matters. Work with both client leadership and employees on development plans, performance improvement plans, talent management plans, and workforce development plans to best meet the organizational objectives of the unit and the University. Work with leadership through performance management efforts and guidance through separations as needed.

Review and approve coaching and disciplinary action decisions to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and EEO laws and ordinances, and that they comply procedurally with associated policies and procedures.

Develop strategic partnerships with college, unit, and department leadership to co-create a plan with leadership to support a culture aligned with institutional values. Address and respond to challenges by developing best practices and facilitating programs to effect intervention, accelerating implementation through coaching, supporting the integration of new approaches and practices within units, and developing and analyzing measures and HR data to assess unit progress.

Collaborate with services across the Division of HR to provide recruitment strategy advice, talent retention guidance, effective career architecture consulting, HR policy and procedure guidance and employee relations advising to ensure colleges and units offer effective and efficient hiring, onboarding, leaves, transactions, performance management, and overall quality of operational work at the local level. Consults with other campus stakeholders (Office of General Counsel, Senior Leaders, Legal, Risk Management, Office of Institutional Equity, and Disability Resource Center) to provide guidance and recommended course of action to employees and unit leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is typically required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SHRM or HRCI Professional Certification in HR.
  • Experience designing, developing, and facilitating training and development programs using various delivery methods.
  • Successful current or previous experience in a management or leadership role, which includes directly managing, directing and coaching direct reports and other professionals.
