Description

The Research Assistant in the College of Science & Technology’s Biology Department will be responsible for the overall organization of the research lab including ordering of supplies, research accounting, database maintenance, and animal colony maintenance. The Research Assistant will also have the opportunity to perform experiments in the area of the nervous system using cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology, cell culture, microscopy, and electrophysiology; in addition to learning to develop their own independent research projects. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Biology or Neuroscience and at least six months of directly related experience in research/laboratory setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:*Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.*Ability to multi-task and maintain large spreadsheets.*Knowledge of general spreadsheet and statistical packages.*Ability to prepare drafts of evaluation/research reports based on results of data analysis.*Excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform basic math.*Ability to work independently after consultation with laboratory head.*Excellent customer service skills; along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
Preferred:*Prior experience in a scientific research setting.*Experience with molecular and genetic techniques in the laboratory.*Web site creation and maintenance.
