Senior Medical Assistant
The Senior Medical Assistant in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Urology department shall direct activities of department Medical Assistants, supervise patient flow during clinic sessions and function as liaison between Medical Assistants and physicians.
Responsibilities include: receiving patients at the time of visit and supporting the physician and nurses in the delivery of health care to patients by performing a variety of medically-related tasks; functions as a resource person for physicians and/or manager by directing the daily clinical activities of the department's Medical Assistants (i.e., assignment of tasks, providing training on new procedures, relaying pertinent clinic and/or patient information, etc.); reviewing physician schedules and handling all scheduling problems or discrepancies; maintaining inventory of clinical supplies; ordering supplies; meeting and greeting all patients and visitors in a courteous, friendly manner; escorting patients to examination room, weighing and preparing patients for examination in conformance with physician's needs (i.e., obtaining vital signs, assisting patients in changing to and from examining gowns); scheduling laboratory tests and completing necessary forms; assisting in the maintenance of patient medical charts including insertion of all lab reports and x-rays; calling and retrieving, as directed, necessary laboratory reports and x-ray films and/or reports; logging all studies orders and retrieving results in a timely manner. In addition, the Senior Medical Assistant takes electrocardiograms, gives injections or inoculations, draws blood; assists physicians in arranging patient admissions, provides pertinent patient data, obtains room number and arranging for in-house transportation; assists with patient registration and appointment scheduling when necessary; schedules laboratory tests and complete necessary forms; answers telephones; records and relays accurate information; performs light typing and photocopying related to patients; performs special projects when required and retrieves patient charts. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Medical Assistant certification required plus a minimum of two years’ experience as a Medical Assistant. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Prior supervisory or coordinator experience may be required.
