Your opportunity:

This position provides an opportunity to join the Office of the Registrar and Student Services (ORSS) at the Daniels Faculty. Reporting to the Registrar & Assistant Dean, Students, the Associate Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards plays an integral role within the ORSS team by advising students on financial aid matters, bursaries, budgeting and personal financial management by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomes; planning and implementing the day-to-day administrative tasks required to support and manage all undergraduate and graduate awards processes and procedures; as well as producing complex statistical and/or financial reports.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on financial aid matters, bursaries, budgeting and personal financial management by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomes
  • Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making
  • Interpreting and applying academic and government financial aid rules to ensure students meet requirements
  • Reviewing and approving student requests for fee deferrals, refunds, and appeals for exceptional cases
  • Liaising with donors and advancement staff regarding financial awards
  • Administering accounts in accordance with funding terms and conditions
  • Implementing plans for awards programs and related objectives
  • Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on fees and awards funding accounts

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years’ recent and related experience:
  • Providing financial aid and awards counselling in a post-secondary environment, preferably within a university registrar’s office
  • Working in a registrarial and student services office
  • Advising graduate and undergraduate students
  • Leading projects on new awards development and implementation
  • Administering and assessing a high volume of grant, scholarship, and award programs in a large and complex post-€secondary environment
  • Monitoring and reconciling award accounts
  • Creating documentation and/or training materials
  • Developing and delivering presentations and workshops
  • Advising and counselling students from diverse backgrounds on financial and academic matters
  • Interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures
  • High degree of computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs
  • Strong knowledge of ROSI (Repository of Student Information) system
  • Familiarity with admission databases (eg: Online Admissions Application, Nolij, JOIN, Slate), and Enrolment Services File Share
  • Experience with FIS (Financial Information System), and website management
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and discretion along with a strong client-service orientation (e.g., students, faculty, staff, donors)
  • Ability to identify systemic barriers to student access to financial aid
  • Familiarity with FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)
  • Knowledge of University and government financial aid programs, policies, and procedures; and of University of Toronto policies and procedures
  • Trained in SafeTalk and ASIST
  • Available to work extended hours during peak admissions cycle, and occasional travel for business purposes

USW Pay Band 14 -- $78,618 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,542. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
