Scope of Job:
The College of Education and P-16 Integration is accepting applications for an Assistant Assistant professor in the Department of Organization and School Leadership to begin appointment in fall 2021. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is in the middle of one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation, the southern tip of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley.

With a total enrollment of 32,618 students fall 2020 (undergraduate, 27,275; graduate, 5,122; and School of Medicine, 221). Importantly, more than 80% of our first-year students returned for their second year this fall inspite of COVID-19 - a true testament to the resilience of our students. UTRGV is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Texas and the second-largest Hispanic-service institution in the nation, with an emphasis on educating 21st-century leaders and professionals who are culturally fluent and have a deep understanding of the perspectives, languages, and values of different cultures.     The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers master's programs in educational leadership; curriculum and instruction with specializations in digital literacy, elementary mathematics, and science education, mathematics education, science education, and social studies education; school psychology; and counseling. We also offer Ed. Ds in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction with several specialization areas.
    The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and is pursuing national accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Further, the Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction, housed in the College of Education and P-16 Integration, was recently ranked 8th in the nation of “Best Online EdD & Ph.D. Programs in Education” by gradsource. The Department of Organizational and School Leadership was recently accepted as a member of the University Council for Educational Administration.

    The College of Education and P-16 Integration is seeking an innovative teacher, leader, and scholar. The assistant professor position requires teaching in various formats (face- to-face; hybrid; and fully online). The successful candidate will be expected to: a) teach and advise at the graduate level, b) serve on and chair dissertation/thesis committees, c) serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and d) conduct, participate, and collaborate in P-16 research and scholarly work in an R2 institution.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    An earned doctorate in School Leadership, School Administration, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

    •Experience with educational leadership.
    •Experience teaching online in Higher Education
    •Record of recent research activity
    •Experience in higher education teaching

    Preferred Qualification:
    •Possess bilingual, bicultural, and bi-literate skills as appropriate for the goals of UTRGV.
    •Experience with educational leadership preparation programs
    •Experience as campus administrator or central office administrator
    •Published manuscripts
    •Experience with grant writing
    •Experience with teaching doctoral courses
    •Experience with teaching doctoral statistical courses
    •Experience of serving on dissertation committee


    Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Additional Information:
    UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
