The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks applications for a Facilities Manager in the University of Virginia Microfabrication Laboratories (UVML). The UVML is a newly renovated17,500 sq-ft cleanroom facility with processing and manufacturing capabilities for both hard and soft materials. Microfabrication includes lithography, dry etching and deposition, wet processing, plating and metrology tools such as optical and physical thickness profilometry, SEM, microscopy, and stress measurement. The integrated soft materials capabilities includes soft-lithography and new CAD Bio capabilities for R&D on innovative regenerative materials, biomaterials synthesis, biomanufacturing, lab-on-a-chip, and rapid prototyping. Given the education setting, these positions include interaction with students, staff and faculty.
Laboratory safety officer [manage policy and protocol for chemical & laboratory safety; monitor users and practices; supervise technician for chemical waste pickup with EHS].
Supervise laboratory technicians.
In concert with laboratory technicians- monitor, perform preventative maintenance and repair laboratory equipment and electronics, and install new equipment.
In concert with laboratory technicians- keep laboratory chemicals, solvents and supplies stocked.
Interact with and assist UVA Facility Management on their maintenance of the larger facility and building infrastructure.
Work with the director of the facility to manage the facility account, create laboratory policy, realize a safe and productive laboratory environment for all facility users and plan to meet future user needs.
Work the director of the facility to manage the training of new users.
Interact with faculty, staff and student users of the facility and develop policies and procedures for laboratory personnel.
High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
Ten years of experience working with vacuum based systems, analytical laboratory instrumentation and facility maintenance in a production or research environment is required.
At least five years supervisory or leadership experience is required.
