The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks applications for Facility Technicians to work in the University of Virginia Microfabrication Laboratories (UVML). The UVML is a newly renovated17,500 sq-ft cleanroom facility with processing and manufacturing capabilities for both hard and soft materials. Microfabrication includes lithography, dry etching and deposition, wet processing, plating and metrology tools such as optical and physical thickness profilometry, SEM, microscopy, and stress measurement. The integrated soft materials capabilities includes soft-lithography and new CAD Bio capabilities for R&D on innovative regenerative materials, biomaterials synthesis, biomanufacturing, lab-on-a-chip, and rapid prototyping. Given the education setting, these positions include interaction with students, staff and faculty.
Laboratory duties including maintenance and troubleshooting of thin film device fabrication and analysis tools such as vacuum pumps, electronic systems, photolithographic aligners, and sputter, reactive ion etching, and evaporation systems. Applicant's familiarity with such equipment tools and processes is desirable, but not required.
The position requires the handling and organizing of hazardous waste chemicals for disposal.
Employees must also keep track of the inventory of some chemicals and supplies used in the work and order as needed.
Given the educational setting, the applicants will need to be able to work with and train students on the use of equipment tools, and to work with other staff.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Five years of experience in lab instrumentation or equipment in a production or research environment is required.
Experience with thin film device fabrication and analysis tools such as vacuum pumps, electronic systems, photolithographic aligners, and sputter, reactive ion etching, and evaporation systems, such equipment tools and processes is preferred.
A Technical degree (or certification) may be considered in lieu of experience.
