Job Summary The School of Biological Sciences is seeking a Research Technician III for Dr. Marvin Whiteley’s lab.

The Research Technician III will:

    Assist with genomic experimentsCoordinate the collection of clinical samples, RNA isolation and sequencing for clinical bacterial isolatesConsult with research leadership to determine scope and extent of experimental and analysis needsDetermine equipment and materials needed to support experimental and analysis effortsIndependently and sometimes collaboratively set up and conduct experiments following prescribed procedures and protocolsAnalyze and document results of experimentsCalibrate and maintain laboratory equipmentMaintain required inventories of materials and supplies neededPerform other related duties as assigned

The duties associated with the sponsored project require a high level of technical expertise and familiarity with methods used by the Whiteley lab.


Job Duty 1 -
Compile and analyze tests data and report findings.

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related databases.

Job Duty 3 -
Operate or advise in the operation various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 4 -
Investigate and propose alternative experiment procedures.

Job Duty 5 -
Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.

Job Duty 6 -
Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Job Duty 7 -
Train in laboratory processes and proper use of laboratory equipment.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Two to three years of job related experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

This job requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific and related laboratory operations. Includes skill in data organization, management and evaluation; statistical analysis; project organization; and, use of advanced statistical and scientific computer applications.
