The School of Global Health in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a teaching stream, tenure-track position at the Associate or Full Professor level in Experiential Learning in Global Health to commence July 1, 2021. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the classroom. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
A PhD, or a PhD equivalent (such as a JD or MD) with a substantial record of professional experience, in a global health related discipline from the sciences, social sciences, or humanities is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is also required, with a background in experiential education preferred. Experience working in global health policy or practice would be an asset, but is not required. The successful candidate will be familiar with a range of pedagogical, philosophical, and disciplinary lenses relevant to global health and demonstated expertise in, at least, one of the following: health protection and promotion, complexity science, social determinants of health, global governance, and/or intersectional, anti-colonial, or anti-oppression frameworks.
The successful candidate would be expected to coordinate and teach two core courses for the Specialized Honours degree: Global Health Practicum (IHST 4300) and Applied Global Health Research Capstone (IHST 4400) – in addition to Agents of Change in a Global World (IHST 1020) and Foundations of Global Health Studies (IHST 1010). The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in pedagogical innovation in areas, such as experiential education, community engagement, and/or technology enhanced learning. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching, student experience, and supporting curriculum development within the School.
It is expected that the successful candidate will take a leadership role in the coordination of the undergraduate program, and regular service contribution of a member of the School. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions in administrative and/or committee work. Creating or maintaining an independent program of research is not an expectation.
