About This Position

The Brief Strategic Family Therapy Institute (BSFT) at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting career opportunity for a Director, Social Services. The BSFT Institute disseminates the BSFT model, an Evidence Based Model for drug using, delinquent youth and their families. There are BSFT programs in Florida, across the United States and in Europe. The BSFT Social Services Director is responsible for the management of assigned BSFT programs in New York City. The BSFT Social Services Director will oversee all BSFT Model Managers working in BSFT programs funded by New York City Administration for Children's Services (NYCACS), the largest child welfare system in the United States. NYCACS is the only municipality in the United States using therapists trained in Evidenced Based Models as Case Planners for families of children who have indications of child abuse or neglect.

The BSFT Social Services Director may be responsible for the following duties at each assigned BSFT program:

  • Oversight of the entire BSFT program to ensure adherence to the BSFT model and its Standard Operating Procedures

  • Engage agency executives, directors and managers to support adherence to the BSFT model

  • Conduct monthly implementation meeting with agency directors and managers

  • Conduct two quarterly implementation meetings on site with executives at each BSFT program; conduct two quarterly meetings by teleconference for executives at each BSFT program

  • Conduct BSFT workshops to train newly hired BSFT therapists

  • Supervise new therapists each week at each BSFT program

  • When the BSFT On-Site Supervisor is selected, provide weekly supervision to the BSFT On-Site Supervisor at each program

  • Conduct annual booster workshops and annual site consultation visits for each BSFT program

  • Assess fidelity for each BSFT therapist and prepare fidelity assessment report for BSFT program leaders each month

  • Prepare monthly reports to present to the Executive Director for each BSFT program

Leadership Role to include:

  • Supervise all BSFT Model Managers working in community agencies funded by NYCACS

  • Coordinate all program activities related to NYCACS including, but not limited to, monthly case record reviews, monthly provider meetings with ACS, monthly BSFT Institute meetings with NYCACS

  • Manage deliverables from NYCACS providers including BSFT case rosters and referral reports

  • Meet with stakeholders in the community to ensure an adequate pool of referrals to the BSFT program

  • Make presentations to various borough and district offices of NYCACS as needed to generate referrals for BSFT programs

  • Assist Executive Director in maintaining compliance with all BSFT Institute Standard Operating Procedures at BSFT programs in New York City funded by NYCACS

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Psychology with 5-10 years postgraduate experience and must possess a professional license. Must have previous experience managing a division or unit in a social services agency. Possess competency in the BSFT model and demonstrate the ability to teach, coach and guide therapists practicing the BSFT model. Ability to be culturally competent, able to understand and relate to the experience of client and therapists from diverse ethnic groups. Possess a strong work ethic, be a team builder, demonstrate evidence of leadership effectiveness, evidence of coaching direct reports to optimal performance levels, be self-directed, highly motivated, goal oriented, well organized and able to keep track of multiple meetings and tasks, tracking and recording progress in each. Proficient in oral and written English, be an excellent public speaker and be willing to travel once per month within the United States or abroad. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
