JOB SUMMARY

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Prof. Chiara Mingarelli's research group at the University of Connecticut for up to two years and the potential to work at the Flatiron Institute's Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) for the third year.

The growing UConn astrophysics group has a vibrant and collegial atmosphere with research on star formation and the interstellar medium, galaxy evolution, active galactic nuclei, and computational galaxy formation in addition to Pulsar Timing Array science, https://physics.uconn.edu/research/astrophysics. The successful candidate will also benefit from frequent interactions with colleagues at the CCA, and the potential to spend one year in New York at the CCA as a Flatiron Research Fellow. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will work closely with the group on research topics related, but not limited to low-frequency gravitational-wave (GW) astrophysics, data analysis, multi-messenger astronomy, and the International Pulsar Timing Array. The position includes a competitive salary, research and travel funds, and access to supercomputing facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates are expected to have a PhD in astrophysics or a closely-related field by the start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A solid research portfolio
  • Strong coding and analysis skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to promoting an inclusive community in astrophysics
  • An interest and/or experience working with pulsar timing array data, supermassive black hole binaries, data analysis, gravitational-wave astrophysics.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

The desired start date is August 27, 2021 (with flexibility). The initial appointment at UConn is for one year, renewable for an additional year contingent upon satisfactory performance, mutual agreement, and availability of funds. Another year has the potential to be based at the CCA in New York City as a Flatiron Research Fellow.
