The Department of Physical Therapy is currently seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant. The incumbent in this position will provide physical therapy treatment to patients in accordance with an established treatment plan as directed by a physical therapist. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices within the scope of professional limitations. Progress patients skillfully and safely through the levels of treatment within the maximum capabilities of the patient. Consult with supervising Physical Therapist regarding progress and changes in patient’s condition. Document all treatment and other pertinent patient interaction in accordance with UMH policies. Provide relevant education to patient and family regarding home programs and activities.

Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, family and other members of the rehabilitation team. Use treatment tools and equipment safely and effectively. Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Maintain a satisfactory level of productivity according to clinic standards and demonstrate willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis and real clinic need. Participate in quality and safety improvement activities as directed by the Department Director. Orient, instruct and direct work activities for support personnel as appropriate. Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Department Director. Actively pursue professional growth through professional affiliations with associates and attendance at workshops and conferences. Understand and follow all UMH policies. Perform any other duties as directed by the Department Director.


  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant program approved by the APTA and holds a current state license as applicable. The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice according to APTA guidelines and the state practice act.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
