Position Summary

Nurse Practitioner will work independently and in collaboration with general and sub-specialty neurologists and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for patients with Neurological disorders, in particular, headache and facial pain in an outpatient setting. The nurse practitioner provides specialty medical care focusing on the patient as a whole person. The provision of care includes but is not limited to: comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies. Will provide teaching to patients and family related to disease management awareness and prevention. Assumes lead roles in educational projects, course development and presentations in specified focus areas. Participates in research projects in conjunction with departmental faculty. This is a full time position to become part of a multi-specialty neurology clinic within a university department.

Required Degree

Masters -Masters of Nurse Practitioner

Desired Degree

Doctorate -Doctors of Nurse Practitioner

Minimum Requirements

One or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a masters of nursing; requires possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse and specialist certification as a nurse practitioner in the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications

Completion of nurse practitioner residency in Neurology with two to five year of previous clinical neurology experience is preferred but not required. Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated leadership ability. Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs. Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
