Position Summary

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure-system position in the area of diamond electronics. We seek exceptional candidates who are interested in both the synthesis of novel diamond-based materials (for instance, tailored thin films, doped materials) as well as using these materials to develop devices for emerging applications (for instance, high power, high frequency, quantum). The position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidate. Candidates must have an earned PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field by the anticipated start date of January 1, 2021. The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service. The department is especially interested in candidates with a history of promoting diversity in their research, teaching, and service. The department and College have a strong track record of mentoring junior faculty to successfully growing their academic careers.

Candidates are encouraged to describe the potential impacts of their research focus as well as how their work might complement existing strengths in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering or other research programs at Michigan State, as research fit will be a factor in evaluation. The Electrical and Computer Engineering department has strong interdisciplinary research and educational programs on a foundation of core electrical and computer engineering disciplines and provides first-class education while engaging in research at the frontiers of knowledge. The Department has 50 faculty members, including 12 IEEE Fellows, 11 NSF CAREER, 3 DARPA YFA, one AFOSR YIP and one ONR YIP awardees. The Department has strong research programs in all major areas of electrical and computer engineering, with annual research expenditures of about $16M. Faculty in the Department are leading several federal and industry-supported centers, including the NSF Science and Technology Center BEACON, the Fraunhofer Center for Coatings and Diamond Technology, and the Connected and Autonomous Networked Vehicles with Active Safety (CANVAS) research center. The Department has accredited B.S. degree programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.
