This is a hands-on position gathering and writing news stories, photo galleries and video and publishing them on the station's web site. The major focus of this position is to edit, produce, and share content for WBUR.org in an accurate, timely and compelling manner. This job requires a thorough understanding of how to promote interactivity and audience engagement with web users and an understanding of the mission of public radio. May include evening and weekend hours.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for digital editing and presentation of the material on wbur.org and related digital products, such as newsletters, social media. This might include feature editing, copy editing and writing and editing copy for multiple platforms
  • Responsive to breaking local and national news, monitoring multiple sources such as NPR and the AP
  • Edit features and shorter news posts, process photos and video, and occasionally write stories. The major focus of this position is producing and updating content for wbur.org in an accurate, timely and compelling manner
  • Collaborate with newscast writers and reporters in the field, and vet information as necessary to help produce stories for the web. Coordinate with the radio editors and newscast editors to ensure accurate, quality coverage on air.
  • Produce our homepage that reflects the needs of our audience to be informed and current with the content produced by WBUR and its partners. Produce and share content on social media, especially Twitter
  • Work with the visual media team to coordinate photo and video production to accompany stories and brainstorm multimedia projects. Edit and oversee production quality of multimedia content and seek imaginative ways to tell stories on digital and social media platforms.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree required with three to five years of related work experience.
  • Must be detail-oriented, care deeply about journalistic standards, have strong news judgment, and be an excellent copy editor (AP Style is a plus).
