Position Summary:

The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art – Photography to begin August 2021. This position will teach introductory through advanced lens-based courses for studio art, art education, graphic design, digital design, and non-art majors. Though the position will teach photography, we are open to related research areas. Those interested in continuing to grow the photography/lens-based area through innovation or looking to affect real change are encouraged to apply.

About Us:
The Department of Art + Design, one of eleven departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Communications, has sixteen full-time faculty members, offering majors and minors in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Digital Design, Art Education, and Art History, as well as certificates in Swift Coding and Museum Studies with around 106 majors currently enrolled

Located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, 70 miles northwest of Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas State University is one of Arkansas’ two largest residential universities and is the flagship campus for the Arkansas State system. The university has an enrollment of around 13,000 students

Minimum Qualifications:

• MFA in Photography, lens-based media, or related field(s) awarded prior to start date
• Teaching experience at the college/university level
• An active and promising research agenda in area of specialization
• Assist with management, safety, and maintenance of lab facilities

Preferred Qualifications:
• Two (2) years teaching experience at the college level beyond graduate teaching assistant
• Ability to teach both traditional techniques and interdisciplinary approaches in photography’s expanded field
• Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students

The Arkansas State University System is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve staggered seven-year terms. The trustees hire the system president, approve the curriculum, annually approve an operating budget, and establish policies for the efficient and effective operation of the institutions.
