Creates and structures grant-funded programs for the College of Liberal Arts. Prepares and submits grant applications and proposals for the organization for existing or proposed projects; including writing or amending program descriptions and compiling required data. Identifies potential funding and grant sources for current programs and provides proposals for funding for emerging issues. Develops budgets and justifications for new proposals and renewals of grants. Initiates and maintains communication with relevant agencies. Examines literature dealing with funds available through grants from government agencies and private foundations to determine feasibility of developing programs to supplement budget. Coordinates evaluation and monitoring of grant-funded programs, or writes evaluation of program.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Coordinates continuing education in grant writing for College of Liberal Arts faculty.

Works one-on-one with College of Liberal Arts faculty to facilitate external and internal review of grant narratives.

Computes, classifies, and records numerical data to keep financial records complete for multiple grant projects.

Assists in the preparation of the College of Liberal Arts annual grant report.

Assists with and facilitates grant related events and workshops sponsored by the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs.

Acts as a liaison between the College of Liberal Arts and the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs.

Coordinates access to Grants.gov and Cayuse 424 for College of Liberal Arts faculty, in accordance with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs guidelines.

Assists faculty and staff with all aspects of electronic research administration, including University Intent to Submit and External Routing forms, electronic grant submission, and reports.

Assists with fiscal administration of grants awarded to College of Liberal Arts faculty and programs.

Works with interested faculty and staff to help find funding opportunities to investigate local, state, federal, private and corporate sources of funds using searchable databases, such as COS Pivot, Grants,gov, and the Federal Register.

Assists faculty and staff to create effective grant budgets.

Serves as the principal point of contact for matters relating to University review, routing, and approval of all external grant applications.

Remains active in at least one professional research administration organization.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Scope & Impact: This position is an intermediate-level independent contributor whose actions may have a significant impact on a department's operations. This position may also affect operations of multiple work areas.

Communication & Interaction: Interacts with various levels within or outside the University to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates functional expertise in a particular domain. Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day to day operations.

Problem Solving & Judgement: Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures, generally accepted principles, and methods. Resolves day to day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information. Solutions may include modifying procedures and methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions. Problems generally require significant analysis and judgment. Solutions may include adapting existing policies and systems to address unique situations.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements. May assist with research, requirements gathering or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate process to follow.

Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities: May provide functional subject matter expertise and guidance to junior staff.

Qualifications Qualifications Required:

Requires a university degree and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications Preferred:

Two years of grant management experience in an academic environment.

A successful record of developing and preparing proposals and obtaining grants.

Experience in providing both pre- and post-award grant assistance in an academic environment.

Computer experience using word processing (preferably Word), Excel and Access.

Master's degree.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to work with others as a team member.

Willingness to perform under deadlines.

Superior skills in oral and written communications.

Ability to seek out funding opportunities and stimulate grant production.
