The Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks an exceptional physician-leader as the next Director of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine.  The Division has grown to over 70 faculty and has built an outstanding fellowship program and a research portfolio with more than $20M/year in extramural funding.  The Division has programs in cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, and end-stage lung disease that attract patients around the world.  The Division pioneers eICU care that has decreased mortality in hospitals across Alabama. UAB is ranked by US News and World Report as the #1 hospital in pulmonology in the 11 states of the Southeast (Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia Virginia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, and Alabama), and #25 in the country.

UAB seeks a physician-leader who works well with others, is esteemed, has demonstrated the ability to develop people and programs, and has advanced the field.  The Division Director will lead the faculty in creating and implementing the vision to develop clinical, training, and research programs that will prevent lung disease and will advance the care and cure of people with lung disease.  The Division will become a magnet for the best chest physicians, critical care physicians, and lung scientists. 

The successful candidate will be board-certified in Pulmonary Disease and/or Critical Care Medicine.  The appointment will be endowed and tenured as full professor.  The Division Director will be responsible for investing a substantial financial commitment for program development.
