Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship.  Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach.

The Chemistry Department is seeking to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member specializing in Marine Environmental Chemistry to begin in August 2021. Teaching duties include introductory-level chemistry courses, Environmental Chemistry (undergraduate and graduate level), Marine Environmental Chemistry (undergraduate and graduate level) and other courses in areas of specialty. In addition to teaching excellence, the candidate is expected to pursue scholarship in their area of expertise. These activities include mentoring student research leading to peer-reviewed publications, grant funding, student theses, and contributions to workshops and conferences. Faculty members are also expected to advise undergraduate students and to participate in university service activities.

Required Qualifications: 

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with a specialty in Marine Environmental Chemistry by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with college-level teaching experience and a track record of obtaining external funding.
