The School of Business has had increasing enrollments, significant external fundraising success and occupies a LEED certified building. The School of Business recently adopted the tag line “Change for Good,” and a focus on sustainability, conscious capitalism, student professional development and business community engagement is woven throughout its programs. 

The School of Business is in the design stage for a new 60,000 SF structure; this will be the first “net zero” building constructed by the state of Connecticut. The School is actively pursuing AACSB accreditation and is in the candidacy stage. Current undergraduate enrollment in the School of Business is 1,000 students, and the MBA programs enroll approximately 150 students. The School currently maintains subscriptions for databases like CRSP, COMPUSTAT and EIKON, and supports STATA, AMOS and Qualtrics. The School of Business maintains multiple channels of communication with the local business community and is actively engaged with the region’s employers. An active Business Advisory Council, made up of top ranked executives from the local business community, provides advocacy and support.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship.  Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach.

The Business Information Systems (BIS) Department is seeking to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member specializing in Information Systems to begin in August 2021. In addition to teaching excellence with a global perspective, the candidate is expected to be a productive scholar or practitioner. Faculty members are also expected to advise undergraduate students and to participate in university service activities. Engagement with the business community in the school’s environment is required.

Required Qualifications:

A research doctorate in Business Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems or a related business discipline is required, preferably from an AACSB accredited institution. ABD applicants will be considered.  Earned doctorate must be completed within two years of appointment. 

Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels; teaching responsibilities may include evenings and weekends. Scholarly activities, productive service and student advisement are required; engagement with the business community is expected.

All candidates must demonstrate evidence of their ability to teach effectively at the university level to a diverse group of undergraduate and/or MBA students as well as their ability to teach hybrid online/on-ground classes.

Candidates must demonstrate an ability to engage in meaningful scholarship, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals in their discipline. Successful candidates must demonstrate their ability to be qualified under our AACSB standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate their qualifications, experience and deep expertise in teaching several or more of our existing BIS or MBA courses in areas of: AI for Business, Supply Chain Logistics, Cloud Computing, Decision Support Systems, Global Information Systems, Project Management, Business Process Design, and ERP.

Preference will be given to candidates that can demonstrate relevant industry experience in Information Systems leadership role(s) or as highly experienced Certified Project Managers Professionals (PMP). Preference will be given to candidates with earned terminal degrees, preferably from an AACSB accredited institution.
