The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Mental Health Counselor for Chabot College in Hayward, Ca.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide Mental Health short term and crisis counseling services through direct contact with students individually; in groups, in initial screenings and through walk-in counseling.
- Provide crisis assessment and emergency response for students and the campus community
- Maintain a caseload of 10 to 12 students
- Maintain clinical records and documentation as appropriate
- Provide referral services as needed to students, faculty and staff in need of psychological and counseling resources, beyond those offered on campus
- Maintain collaborative relationships with college faculty, staff and administrators
- Attend mental health clinical meetings and other Student Service meetings and events when appropriate
- Facilitate mental health support groups for students on campus.
- Perform related duties as assigned
Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent. (NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline).
Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

- Experience in providing psychological services, group facilitation and/or counseling in an educational institution
- Experience in crisis assessment and intervention
- Commitment to community college goals/objectives in providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students.
- Personal qualities to work effectively within a multicultural environment.
- Awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional development.
- Practice cultural humility
- Knowledge of community health and social service resources and experience making appropriate referrals
- Knowledge and ability to consult effectively with Mental Health Team, faculty, staff and administrators regarding students as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish are desired
- Ability to work in the evening, mornings and on Friday are desired
