Position Summary:

The Center for Theoretical Biological Physics is actively recruiting recent quantitative science (physics, mathematics, chemistry, etc.) Ph.D. graduates for postdoctoral positions beginning January 1, 2021. We are looking to fill at least one position with postdoctoral candidates well-versed in quantitative science, but also very interested in learning and tackling research problems in the realm of biology and medicine.

Education Required:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate

Major/Discipline:

Any quantitative science, such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, bioengineering, systems biology, etc.

Experience Required:

No experience required

Experience Preferred:

- Strong research background and publication of peer-reviewed papers in academic journals
- Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduates and grad students in conducting collaborative research

Skills Required:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as oral presentation skills
- Organization and time management skills
- Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Ability to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction

Physical Demands:

Requires working at a computer for extended periods of time (up to eight hours per day).

Working Conditions:

- Office environment
- Shared office space
- Must travel to conferences, nationally and internationally, to present papers and/or to conduct collaborative research
- Work hours are flexible

Essential Functions:

- Identifies problems or issues of importance in the functioning of living systems and identifies possible mechanisms underlying the function
- Creates physical science-based models to quantitatively investigate these models
- Requires the ability to glean information and data from biology literature, while being able to use analytical and computational skills to derive and formulate model results to be compared to that literature (e.g., molecular biophysics, information processing and signaling networks, self-organization at the cellular and multi-cellular scales, as well as evolution and ecological dynamics)
- Writes about research and work in papers to be published in leading, peer-reviewed scientific journals and discussed at leading conferences
- Attends scientific conferences, makes presentations, collaborates with other researchers at this and other institutions
- Mentors and helps teach graduate and undergraduate students at the Center; Will be asked to mentor a summer undergraduate research fellow
- Write proposals to obtain research funding
- Provides academic services (i.e., teaching classes) to the department as required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
