Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Mathematics beginning fall 2020. The successful candidate will be nominated for designation as a Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Mathematics: the Luce Program guidelines restrict Luce professorships to women who are recent or early-career Ph.Ds and who are U.S. citizens or have permanent residency in the U.S. Luce appointments offer qualified candidates exceptional support in teaching and scholarship directly related to teaching and researching in the faculty member’s field.

The Mathematics program is poised to add concentration areas in statistics and data analytics to its existing major curriculum. The program therefore seeks outstanding candidates having expertise in both theory and applications, with significant interest and experience in working with practical data and digital technology. The hiring committee especially encourages applications from scholars working in the areas of applied statistics & data analysis, computer programming with R & Python, data visualization, and data ethics & security.

This position is responsible for undergraduate instruction in Trinity’s women’s college, the College of Arts and Sciences, including instruction in traditional/foundational math courses as well as statistics/data driven courses. The normal teaching load is three courses per semester. Additional responsibilities include student advising. A doctorate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a directly related field is required. Experience with online teaching required.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of inclusive teaching and best teaching practices in the field. In addition to being passionate and dedicated to enhancing students’ quantitative reasoning skills, candidates should be enthusiastic in developing nontraditional, interdisciplinary math, statistics, and data science courses, be collaborative in promoting STEM undergraduate research, and be willing to pursue professional development opportunities.

Send cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy and three letters of recommendation to the link listed below.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until an appointment is made.

Trinity Washington University is dedicated to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its students, faculty and staff. Trinity is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community and strongly encourages all qualified individuals to apply.
