This full-time year-round staff associate responsible for the mechanical operations of the vehicles and equipment of the William H Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education at Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks including the operation and maintenance of the water treatment system, and all other mechanicals. Basic knowledge of construction including electrical and plumbing. Assumes the caretaker’s duties and responsibilities when absent, including the wastewater treatment facility.
The Parks Family Outdoor Center promotes campus-wide awareness and commitment to environmental and outdoor education while also managing the College’s outdoor and environmental outdoor/environmental facilities.

Major Responsibilities

•Assist with the implementation of program delivery as requested by the director or assistant director.
•Assist with the transportation of program personnel, goods and materials to and from Camp Huntington.
•Establish and maintain records, files and documents for scheduled and preventative maintenance of equipment.
•Ensure that all mechanical repairs on motorized equipment are made as soon as possible.
•Facilitate repairs to all structures as needed to ensure safe living and learning conditions for program users.
•Responsible for preventative maintenance and service to boats, trucks, ATV’s, snowmobiles, tractor, dozer, outboard motors, generators, pump motors, firefighting equipment, chainsaws and power tools.
•Responsible for the operation, maintenance and security of water treatment plant and campus water system.
•Complete in-service credits necessary to maintain a Water Treatment Grade 2A License.
•Maintain a file on health and safety data sheets for equipment and chemicals housed at the Center.
•Basic knowledge of construction including electrical and plumbing. Assumes caretaker’s duties and responsibilities when absent, including the wastewater treatment facility.
•Other job-related tasks and activities within the scope of position may be assigned by the director in support of facility and program operations.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the director of the Parks Family Center.

Also takes direction from the assistant director of the Parks Family Center and SUNY Cortland provost.

Works closely with Parks Family Center staff.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent with seven years’ experience in vehicle/mechanical operation and maintenance; current NYS water treatment grade 2A license or ability and commitment to obtain the license within one year of appointment and; current NYS Boating Safety Certificate or ability and commitment to pass a NYS Boaters Safety Course within four months of appointment. Evidence of a working knowledge of vehicles to include trucks, boats, tractors, pump motors, chainsaws and power tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with a college degree, current water treatment license, water treatment plant operation experience, more than seven years’ experience with facility mechanicals, vehicle maintenance and power tool maintenance and operation.
