GGC students who have completed 24 or more credit hours are invited to apply to become Elite Scholars peer mentors. Elite Scholars peer mentors support the success of African American male students who are currently participating in the University System of Georgia (USG) sponsored Elite Scholars Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCETIONS

  • Establish mentoring relationship with assigned Elite Scholars to promote retention to graduation
  • Create, plan and document biweekly touch points with assigned mentees
  • Submit reports which document ES mentee engagement
  • Lead sessions with mentee in a group environment
  • Utilize a wide range of media, including photography and computer aided design
  • Collaborates with Elite Scholars staff on projects as needed
  • Assist with special projects, do research, compile assessments, and program management
  • Attend workshops and trainings as required
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or GED; 24 credits or more completed at GGC.
  • Must currently be enrolled in 12 credit hours or more.
  • Must be in good standing at the College with regard to Student Code of Conduct and Student Integrity.
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or above.
  • Must be able to attend and/or present at offsite or on-campus workshops or professional development opportunities.
  • Must be able to attend peer mentor training and/or other required meetings.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Must be able to maintain a regular weekly schedule.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants with strong writing skills in majors across the curricula are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous leadership experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing.
