Reading and Composition Lecture Pool-Department of African American Studies and Ethnic Studies

The Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies Program, Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies Program, and the Native American Studies program in the Department of Ethnic Studies, and African American Studies at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of part-time, non-tenure track lecturers to teach Reading and Composition courses.

Due to COVID 19 UC Berkeley will begin the fall semester with fully remote instruction. UC Berkeley is prepared to implement hybrid and/or flexible modes of instruction as soon as public health conditions allow. Remote instruction requires an online course to be designed from the outset for delivery via distance-learning methods. Instructors must have internet access and be prepared to adjust pedagogical approaches with a remote setting and use new teaching tools. Department policy requires instructors to create and maintain a bcourses site.

Typically the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in March and April, and applications for spring teaching in October and November and for the summer in March (if applicable). Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. The pool will remain open for one calendar year. Positions may range from 40% to 80% time (one to two courses). Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester), and appointments may be renewable based on the Program's need, funding, and on lecturer performance.

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small or medium sized courses in the following areas:
  • Reading and Composition

    General Duties:
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.

Please refer potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e. dossier service or career center), to the University of California Statement of Confidentiality http://apo.berkeley.edu/evalltr.html, prior to submitting their letters.
