Primary Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in all training events and meetings. Mandatory training meetings are held weekly at 11 am on Thursdays, other meetings may include coordinator meetings and team meetings scheduled by your Lead RA and Coordinator.
  • Promote and enforce these standards in the residence halls as well as on and off-campus.Effectively and appropriately budget time in a balanced manner by recognizing the demands of personal, academic, religious, social, and position responsibilities.
  • Refrain from doing homework and all other non-work related activities while working. Social Media and the use of cellphone can be used for work-related communication purposes only, and should not be excessive as to take away from the core duties of the job.
  • Disseminate information regarding Housing deadlines, activities, policies, conduct, administrative matters, and campus events to residents.Explain the intent and reasons for university and department policies to residents so they may acquire a better understanding.
  • Resident Advisors are responsible for the overall general cleanliness of the facilities, which include common areas such as lounges, kitchens, laundry rooms, bathrooms, hallways, entryways and exits, sidewalks, stairwells, elevators, courtyards, landscaped and seating areas, garbage bins, dumpster areas and parking lots surrounding the facilities.
  • Conduct cleaning checks, as directed by the TVA Coordinator, upholding fair and consistent standards for all residents
  • Resident Advisors are responsible for submitting and following up on all other maintenance tasks submitted through TMA systems and communicating with the Service Center supervisor Community.
  • Maintain a regular consistent presence in the residence and ensure access and approachability to residents within your assigned area

Requirement and Qualification

Minimum wage Requirements and Qualifications of Employment:

Resident Advisors must be full-time students and must be in good financial and academic standing which is defined as not having any financial holds on their student accounts and having a cumulative CGPA of 2.5 or higher. Resident Advisors that fall below the required CGPA of 2.5, in any semester, will be given a grace semester to show forth improvement in their CGPA. If the RA fails to make significant progress, the RA will be terminated at the end of the grace semester.

Resident Advisors may not have other pressing obligations outside of their RA position (volunteer or paid), such as a second job, an internship, military service, significant involvement in student body leadership, etc., as they are expected to have a clear presence within their living community and must be able to respond and be available at any given time.

The entire RA staff must be available to respond in emergency situations at any time (e.g. Natural disasters, fire, severe medical/psychological emergencies, etc.) and be on duty until the situation has been resolved.

Semester Work Hours and Expectations

RA’s are expected to work 19.0 hours each week during the semester as scheduled by the coordinator, going over 19.0 hours will result in disciplinary action by Human Resources and may result in losing the ability to work on the BYUH campus. RA’s can work longer hours as directed by coordinators during breaks as the budget allows. Working over 19 hours may result in visa complications and loss of job for International Students. Working less than an average of 15-19 hours weekly could result in a loss of stipend equal to the average hours worked. This position requires a commitment of work between 17-19 hours weekly.

Approximately 12-14 weekly hours will be focused on office duties, updating and compiling important documents, receiving and organizing USPS/FEDEX/UPS/DHL parcels, responding to service requests, and submitting work orders. 3-4 hours for weekly meetings/training (TVA Meeting, RA Training, Coordinator 1-on-1s, and program/workshop development.

RA’s are expected to hold at a minimum of one workshop during the semester. RA’s can work in groups of two people to combine workshops. Workshops must be planned and approved two weeks prior to the workshop date.

Lead RA’s may have additional meeting responsibilities.

On-Call Duties

While on call, RAs are not required to stay on campus but must be able to return to campus within a reasonable timeframe. RAs are not compensated for all on-call time. In the event when RAs must respond to work-related calls outside of a lockout. Such on-call duties are clocked in hours and are compensated at the regular rate of RA compensation.

All RAs are required to participate in on-call coverage on a rotating basis as scheduled by the Coordinator, which includes weekdays, weekends, breaks, and holidays.

On-call duties include cleaning both TVA playground areas and performing nightly 11 pm TVA rounds, ensuring all guests have left the playgrounds, common areas, observing quiet hours, and secure laundry room doors.

Answer and return all phone calls within 10 minutes and be able to respond to perform RA duties within 30 minutes.

Assist residents with urgent emergency needs that cannot be postponed until the office reopens the following day.

All RAs must be available during emergency situations such as fires, floods, natural disasters, blackouts, significant disturbances, health/psychological, and life-threatening situations.
