Job Description:


  • Perform complete physical examinations (pre-matriculation, study abroad, employment, and sports participation) including taking medical history using the clinical techniques of observation, percussion, palpation, and auscultation
  • Follow protocols, diagnoses common illnesses and injuries using the above noted techniques with the ability to distinguish between normal, normal variance, and abnormal findings based upon evaluation of the patient's medical history and physical examination

  • Select and request laboratory tests, x-rays, and diagnostic tests, interpreting test results together with a patient's history and physical to assess a patient's needs and problems

  • Is responsible for primary care of acute and sub-acute, chronic and episodic conditions, illnesses, and injuries; assumes ongoing responsibility for a patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery under the supervision of a physician or specific protocol

  • Perform women's health examinations including screening for abnormalities, contraceptive methods, pregnancy testing, and STI evaluation with referral to community specialists if needed

  • Prescribe medication and contraceptive methods in accordance with prescriptive authority

  • Perform suturing and special procedures after demonstrating appropriate training

  • Accurate documentation of all patient visits that is complete and legible. It must include: reason for the encounter and relevant history, physical examination findings, and prior diagnostic test results; assessment, clinical impression, or diagnosis; medical plan of care; and date.



Requirements:


  • Required Degree(s): Successful completion of Nurse Practitioner program (Adult or Family) or Physician Assistant Program.
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Experience working in a college student health environment. Two years post-certification or post-licensure medical practice preferred.
  • Required Training/Cert: Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant by a nationally recognized organization.
  • Required Licensure(s): Current license as a Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Massachusetts and Massachusetts prescriptive privileges are required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Experience with college student health and knowledge of budget management and planning are important parts of the position.
  • Strong supervisory and decision making skills.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse student body from a variety of backgrounds and socio-economic experiences

Work Schedule


This is a part-time, non-exempt level, non-benefit eligible position. Normal department office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm. This is a 10-month position scheduled for 21 hours per week during the months of August through May. The set schedule for this position is open for negotiation with the selected candidate and will require the ability to work pre-scheduled new student orientation during the summer months. The position is not required to be on-call or work weekends.
