FSU's Equal Opportunity Statement can be viewed at: http://www.hr.fsu.edu/PDF/Publications/diversity/EEO_Statement.pdfResponsibilities Provides academic advising for approximately 550 upper-division undergraduate students majoring in programs housed under the Office of Interdisciplinary Programs to include: International Affairs (IA), Asian Studies (AS), Asian Studies with an Emphasis in Business (AS BUS), Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS), Latin American and Caribbean Studies with an Emphasis in Business (LACS BUS), Russian and East European Studies (REES), and African-American Studies (AAS). Meets with current and prospective students to provide clarity and guidance regarding academic mapping requirements and degree progress to facilitate timely graduation and help students achieve their academic goals

Builds undergraduate and graduate courses and monitors enrollment issues for all programs housed in the Office of Interdisciplinary Programs to include: IA, AS, LACS, REES, AAS, Interdisciplinary Social Science (ISS), and Public Health (PH)

Trains six graduate student assistants/OPS employees for the Office of Interdisciplinary Program’s regarding upper-level undergraduate advising and resources in order to effectively direct students to needed services

Organizes recruitment events, such as honors in the major promotional events and the International and Cultural Studies Fair

Facilitates registration for internships, directed individualized studies, and honors in the major courses for all Interdisciplinary Programs majors in consultation with relevant faculty and staff

Conducts upper-division transfer orientation sessions for majors housed under International Studies and African-American Studies

Creates and distributes approved course lists for students majoring in International Studies programs, AAS, and students interested in studying abroad

Makes transfer credit departmental equivalencies and advises students seeking to study abroad through FSU’s Center for Global Engagement and International Programs

Serves as departmental academic advising liaison to Republic of Panama students

Serves as departmental liaison to the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s academic dean’s office as well as to academic advisors across FSU

Submits curriculum requests for the introduction of new courses and changes to existing courses

Promotes and awards scholarships through FS4U to undergraduate and graduate students in programs housed under International Studies and AAS

Admits, advises, and awards the Public Policy certificate to students

Creates and distributes promotional materials for prospective undergraduate students

Refers students to appropriate resources across campus, such as the Career Center, Office of Accessibility Services, Student Veterans Center, Center for Global Engagement, University Counseling Center, Department of Student Support and Transitions, etc.Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma and six years of experience related to the duties of this position.

(Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years in related areas.)

Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.

Experience or knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of career counseling and development.

Knowledge of academic resources available to students.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Ability to interpret academic program requirements and provide advice.

Ability to utilize problem solving skills and perform accurately in a detail oriented environment.

Knowledge of applicable computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Outlook).
