The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year position as an Assistant Professor of Flute. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, conduct scholarly and applied research, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities and scholarly activities will be in the area of Flute instruction and Flute ensemble, with a secondary focus such as, but not limited to; Music Theory, Ear Training, Music History, Music Appreciation, Music Technology, World Music, or another area of expertise. Other teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on background with a secondary area of focus that aligns with the candidate's skills, interests, and the Department's needs.
Active recruitment of flute students and building the flute studio is expected. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a positive relationship with music educators in the region, including active participation in local, regional, state, and national music organizations. Typical workload is 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs) per semester, generally comprising 12 WTUs of instruction and 3 WTUs of non-instructional responsibilities, including departmental, college, and university committee service. Service learning, student learning outcomes, and assessments are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

About the College and Department:
The Department of Music at Fresno State was one of the original departments when the university was founded in 1911, and continues to be a leader in music education and artistic performance in the Central Valley and the state at large. The Department of Music has a performance schedule of over 150 performances a year that includes landmark symphonic and choral works, operas, festivals and master classes. The Department of Music provides undergraduate and graduate instruction in music for those planning for professional careers as music educators, performers, composers, conductors, and studio teachers, as well as those preparing for advanced degrees.
