Injury Prevention Manager

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) at Stanford University supports and advances the teaching, learning and research activities at Stanford by promoting a safe and healthy campus environment. Our mission is to provide and coordinate programs and services that minimize safety, health, environmental, and regulatory risks in a manner consistent with fiscal and environmental stewardship. We are comprised of over 10 technical groups with more than 50 specialists who work in the field with top researchers, faculty, staff, and students to support the mission and research of Stanford University. EH&S seeks an Injury Prevention Manager to manage the key efforts that drive University workplace injury prevention, including but not limited to workplace hazard assessment, online incident reporting and analysis, safety management performance metrics, and Ergonomics Program operations. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Occupational Safety & Health Program (OSH) group of EH&S, you will have the primary responsibility to coordinate and implement Ergonomics Program services across the main campus, Redwood City campus, and SLAC as a Human Factors/Ergonomic Practitioner. In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, and oversee the implementation of University-wide injury prevention strategies and allocate appropriate staffing and other resources to achieve the objectives.
• Conduct workplace health and safety assessments to provide proactive safety recommendations and to support post-incident follow-up analyses.
• Build and manage strategic relationships, maintaining a high level of interaction and collaboration with clients and facility/ departmental safety peers across the university.
• Advise EH&S leadership of legislative agendas and their impacts on maintaining safe workplaces in a campus setting.
• Supervise and provide guidance and development for your direct reports.
• Represent the university as a designated safety officer for relevant compliance-related matters.
• In conjunction with Assistant Director of Occupational Safety and Health, develop, monitor, and maintain control of the unit's financial budgets.

To be successful in the role, you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree in arts/science in related allied/scientific field and seven years progressively responsible experience in occupational safety and health, emergency response/management, environmental science, and/or allied/scientific field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of occupational safety and health principles and applications, with demonstrated ability to conduct field safety assessments and facilitate operational risk assessments.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
• Excellent leadership skills and experience with effective implementation of operational programs.
• Broad knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, consensus standards, and current developments in occupational safety and health with demonstrated experience interacting with external regulatory agencies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to develop and deliver effective health and safety training.
• Ability to lead professionally, be on call, and to respond in emergency/crisis laboratory situations.
• Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments and to occasionally need to traverse uneven surfaces, may work in confined spaces, or access heights greater than 10 feet high.
• Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver's license.

In addition, our preferred requirements include:

• Master's of Science degree in allied/scientific field
• A combination of one or more certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certification in Professional Ergonomics (CPE), Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
• 1 - 3 years in a role managing workplace safety programs
