Under the direct supervision and management of the Registrar, the Associate Registrar, Technology Services has principal oversight of technology solutions used by Registration & Academic Services to support the educational mission and goals of the office and University; provides operational guidance for campus services provided by Registration & Academic Services; acts as a data steward for student records; and manages technical implementation of projects for Registration & Academic Services. The successful applicant will have demonstrated skills in successful team-building, cooperative decision-making, and collaborative project-management. Relevant experience in the higher education environment is preferred. Under the direction of the Registrar, and in collaboration with the Associate Registrar, Administration & Student Services, this position develops operational goals for Registration & Academic Services. In support of University’s integrated enrollment management, the Associate Registrar, Technology Services will act under indirect supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Services.

Accountabilities:
  1. Technology Management - Provides principal oversight of technical services areas in Registration & Academic Services
    • Set priorities for the technical services area to meet the goals and budget of Registration & Academic Services; work collaboratively on software selection teams for inter-office and University-wide systems
    • Provide leadership and guidance to technical staff, and serve as technical manager on technology implementations in Registration & Academic Services
    • Monitor current technology trends and advancements; identify and evaluate potential applications using industry best practices as a guide; and lead periodic evaluation to determine whether current and future needs are met with Registration & Academic Services academic records and data systems
    • Technical contact for Registration & Academic Services software providers; work alongside the Registrar on the selection, contract reviews and negotiations for technology purchases of products or services
    • Serve as tier 3 technical support for Registration & Academic Services staff and the University community; solve complex technical problems and provide specialized technical support
  2. Campus Services - Principal oversight for campus services area in Registration & Academic Services
    • University contact to ensure all technology systems used by Registration & Academic Services are functioning and available to campus users
    • Provide leadership and guidance to develop and deliver information and training sessions relative to Registration & Academic Services campus services and support
    • Serve as a liaison to the University user community
    • Serve on University committees to represent Registration & Academic Services alongside other users of student data
    • Working alongside the Registrar, represent Registration & Academic Services to internal constituencies including the Vice Provost for Institutional Research & Strategic Analytics, Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Services, Chief Technology Officer, Director of Retention and Enterprise Systems
    • Give occasional presentations to campus constituencies on Registration & Academic Services systems and processes
  3. Student Records - Data steward within Registration & Academic Services, with responsibilities for maintaining security and integrity of student records
    • Overall responsibility for proper maintenance, security, storage and retention of student data
    • Resolve data access or definition issues involving data elements which exist in multiple data subsets across stems; collaborate with appropriate University offices to develop innovative solutions to complex problems addressing needs with limited University resources and personnel
    • Ensure University compliance with FERPA; with regards to data access and distribution
    • Establish authorization procedures to facilitate appropriate data access as defined by campus data policy and ensure data security for data within the student area; identify the access type for each data element within the student data subsets
    • Provides technical support and data reporting to the Director of Retention
    • Manage fulfillment of complex data requests from University administration; analyze data to discover trends; transform discoveries into actionable information for University administration
  4. Project Management - Serve as Lead Project Manager for technology in Registration & Academic Services
    • Develop long-range goals, aligned with the University strategic plan, to meet the needs of Registration & Academic Services
    • Oversee projects undertaken by Registration & Academic Services staff; when not directly leading a project, provide project management guidance to lead project staff
    • Develop project scopes and objectives, ensuring technical feasibility and involving all relevant stakeholders
    • Conduct project status meetings and review project progress relative to budget, schedule, and specifications
    • In collaboration with the Registrar and Associate Registrar, Administration & Student Services, plan projects to advance the short and long term goals of the office that support University strategic initiatives
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Higher Ed, Computer Science, Business or related degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Master's degree preferred
  3. Three to five years related work experience
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of student information systems, preferably Ellucian Banner products (SIS, DegreeWorks suite, Document Management Suite and Workflow, SQL, Cognos or similar advanced reporting tool)
  5. The successful applicant will have demonstrated skills in successful team-building, cooperative decision-making and collaborative project-management
  6. Relevant experience in the higher education environment is preferred
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  8. Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
  9. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  10. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position

  • Occasional travel, evening and weekend hours during peak periods
