Position Summary:

The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students. SHC provides medical, mental health and wellness services to all registered UC Irvine students regardless of insurance coverage. Most services are provided through scheduled appointments. However, walk-in and same day appointments for more urgent needs are also available. All registered students are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan. If you have comparable insurance and do not want to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you must complete the waiver by the published deadlines. All SHC resources and services are also available to students who have waived UC SHIP.

Three (3) years of professional experience in a busy medical administrative office.

High School Diploma

Three (3) years of professional experience in a busy medical administrative office with at least a traditional high school diploma General Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Must possess appropriate judgment and ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy. High level practice and knowledge of office productivity software. Accurate keyboarding skills, (e.g. avg 60 wpm or higher). Proficiency using personal computer, including office-related software. Excellent telephone etiquette. Experience navigating and effectively using a large information database. Accurate keyboarding skills, (e.g. avg 60 wpm or higher). Ability to manage distressed or upset customers by phone and in a face-to-face setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with appropriate professional boundaries. Understanding of the developmental needs of young and emerging adults. Understanding of a psychiatry service, health care delivery and sensitivity about treatment stigma. Experience in exercising independent judgement, tact, and diplomacy. Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with students, staff and other diverse groups of people. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clinicians, staff and the public. Detail oriented with good organizational and planning skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work in a busy environment with multiple interruptions. Demonstrates effective time management to promote productivity and cost efficiency. Ability to understand and adhere to established appointment scheduling guidelines.

Special Conditions Required:

Although this position’s schedule is M-F and during traditional work hours, weekends or non-traditional work hours may be required for special projects or busy times of the year, or when strict deadlines must be met. In the case of extended hours, this position may be required to work those hours. Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification and continued monitoring of licensure as it applies to the position, and successful completion of our background review or credentialing process, as appropriate to the position.
