The Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill invites applications for a research track faculty position at the level of Research Assistant Professor. The successful candidate is expected to support and contribute to an externally funded research program in infectious disease epidemiology. Current areas of research emphasis include studies of infectious disease transmission dynamics, prevention strategies, and care engagement, with a focus on HIV, bacterial STIs, and SARS-CoV-2. The UNC Department of Epidemiology located within the Gillings School of Global Public Health, is one of the nation’s leading research programs in epidemiology, with a large multidisciplinary training program that emphasizes epidemiologic methods and a range of substantive areas, including infectious diseases. In collaboration with the UNC School of Medicine, this position offers opportunities for a wide range of research partnerships, leadership roles, and mentorship activities.

Candidates should have a demonstrated publication and funding record and emerging leadership roles within the field of infectious disease epidemiology. Methodological expertise in causal inference and mathematical modeling is required, as is substantive expertise in the transmission dynamics of HIV and SARS-CoV-2. Collegiality, resourcefulness, and motivation are highly desirable characteristics of the successful candidate.

Educational Requirements

PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field

Qualifications and Experience

Strong quantitative and computational training, with a minimum of three years’ experience analyzing and interpreting behavioral and biological data related to infectious disease transmission. The candidate must have experience with mathematical modeling and causal inference methods, as well as HIV and SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics.
