Job Summary Conduct strategic communications/PR efforts for campus research units, including message development, writing of news releases and research articles, media visibility, media training and conceiving, planning, organizing and executing PR activities. The person hired for this position will work in Institute Communications, Georgia Tech's central communications organization, and collaborate closely with colleagues in that unit, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research, and communicators in Georgia Tech colleges, schools and other unit.

Responsibilities
  • Write news releases and research articles and contribute to media visibility, media training and conceiving, planning, organizing and executing PR activities

  • Conduct and utilize market research as necessary to recommend appropriate marketing communications strategies.

  • Consult with academic and/or administrative personnel to acquire the necessary information about the subject.

  • Confer with Institute Communications and Marketing to ensure that Institute graphic and style standards are followed in all material.

  • May obtain cost estimates, collaborate in the selection of illustrators and printers and approve their work.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelors degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
At least 5 years job related experience

ABILITIES
Preferred Experience in translating complex science and technology for non-specialized audiences and the general public. A background in writing about science, medicine, or technology and experience working in higher education

SKILLS
Strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communications skills and attention to detail; computer knowledge: search for data, input/edit information, word processing; software knowledge: Macintosh/Windows, Excel, Photoshop, MS Word, PowerPoint, Mercury/Drupal content management systems, and Meltwater
