Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform numerical simulations with complex models.
  • Strong mathematical and numerical modeling skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with significant motivation to publish in the peer reviewed literature.
  • Strong interest in team-based interdisciplinary science, with the willingness and ability to work independently when required.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • We seek a creative post-doctoral scientist with experience in mechanistic modeling of ecosystem hydrology, thermal dynamics, biogeochemistry, and vegetation. The candidate will use an established model to analyze microbial and vegetation dynamics under climate warming in the Stordalen Sweden high-latitude wetland complex. 
  • The science goals of this project are to discover how microbial community activity, hydrology, thermal dynamics, and vegetation dynamics respond to changing temperature, precipitation, topography, etc., across several landscape types at the site. 
  • This is a year-to-yearappointment, for up to 3 years, contingent upon funding and performance. The position will be housed at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and will work closely with researchers at the U. Arizona and other collaborating institutions. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in a relative field from accredited collegeupon hire
  • Prior experience withnumerical modeling methods
  • Prior experience in the science of land surfaceprocesses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing, benchmarking, and analyzing mechanistic land models
