The Department is committed to carrying out state-of-the-art research across a number of areas of physics and closely related areas of science and technology. With approximately 20 research active faculty members, approximately 60 graduate students are mentored in research, making substantial contributions and leading projects themselves as they progress towards completion of their degrees. Many opportunities also exist for undergraduate research participation, for example, through senior thesis projects. With these strong student involvements, the Department’s research activities support and compliment student education and professional preparation.Position Summary
The successful applicant will contribute to the development and implementation of multiscale models in first-principles condensed matter simulation packages. The starting framework of the planned research is represented by the Quantum Espresso package (www.quantum-espresso.org) and by the Environ (www.quantum-environ.org) library for continuum embeddings. The work will include the development of new features in Environ and the refactoring of the library for its coupling with other quantum and classical embedding approaches. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in the application of the developed tools in the fields of materials design for photo-electrochemistry and photo-electrocatalysis. Regular dissemination of the research results through scientific publications and oral presentations in national meetings is expected. The job will include partial supervision of less experienced researchers (PhD and undergraduate students) and the collaboration with other national and international developers.Minimum Qualifications
PhD degree in computational science, in particular in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or Chemistry, is required.
Good working knowledge of Fortran and Python for scientific research is required.Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with advanced electronic-structure calculations is strongly recommended.
